About this Camp
This hands-on summer camp is designed for high school students interested in construction, skilled trades, and community service. Students will work as a team to design and build a little free community library, gaining practical experience with construction tools, materials, and techniques.
Participants will learn foundational construction skills such as accurate measuring and layout, cutting and fastening materials, basic framing, and finishing work. Instruction will also include jobsite safety, tool use, reading simple plans, and understanding how construction projects are planned and executed from start to finish.
In addition to technical skills, students will develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills essential to careers in construction and the trades. The completed free library will be installed in the community, allowing students to see the real-world impact of their work while supporting literacy and civic engagement.
No prior construction experience is required. This camp is ideal for students considering careers in construction, architecture, engineering, or related technical fields. Rising 9th - 12th graders. Meals are not included. Students should bring a bagged lunch each day.
