Summary

This 28-contact course includes instructional content for Ropes & Knots and Search & Rescue. This course will present the candidate with the knowledge, skills, and ability to satisfy the requirements of NFPA 1001: Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications (2019 edition). This course should be offered consistent with the most current NC Fire and Rescue Commission guidelines; contact the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) for details. Effective date July 1, 2020/2019 Edition NFPA Standard.

COURSE INFORMATION: 

The class will be held at SPCC Monroe Braswell 2601 and Monroe Fire Training Grounds. 

The first day of class is Friday April 17, 2026 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  Students must attend and register by/on the first day of class.

4/20 - Monday @ Monroe Fire Training Grounds 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 
4/21 - Tuesday @ Monroe Fire Training Grounds 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 
4/22 - Wednesday @ Monroe Fire Training Grounds 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 
4/24 - Friday @ Monroe Fire Training Grounds 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 
4/27 - Monday @ Monroe Fire Training Grounds 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 
4/29 - Wednesday @ OCH - Braswell 2601 6:00PM to 10:00 PM 

OSFM CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

       Age: Students aged 15 to 18 may take the course; however, certification will not be issued until the students’ 18th birthday.  

       Certification: Firefighter certification requires successful completion of all Firefighter Fireground OPS courses along with additional classes.

Mayday / Safety & Survival 

Hazardous Materials Operations / Level 1 Responder 

       Education: High School Diploma or transcript indicating successful graduation or GED or another High School equivalency 

COURSE ADDITIONAL COSTS: 

Due to the firefighting personal protective gear required, it is highly recommended that students be a member of a fire department.  Students are required to furnish their own gear as needed for particular course.

Students are responsible for acquiring their own textbook.
